What are you doing with your life?
The classic approach to seeing the world back in the day came from the corporate workaholics who used to say “when I retire I’ll travel and see the world”.
Then they nearly all find out that that plan doesn’t work. They didn’t anticipate their bad knees, or their lack of finances, or maybe even their change in energy at an older age.
I know a guy who spent 30 years as an accountant. From age 30 to 60 he went to the office. He owned the practice. I saw him once a year for 20 years each year at tax time. He sold the practice to a larger firm and went off to see the world.
A few months later he sent all of this former clients a letter that said he learned he was suffering from some pretty serious health issues and that the retirement that he and his wife were planning wasn’t going to work out anywhere close to what they had envisioned because he can’t travel at this point.
After 30 years of work he ran out of time. He planned to travel and those plans were completely derailed by health issues just when he was “ready” to do it.
You’re never ready and you’re always ready. You just have to approach it with a mindset of fitting it into your life.
