He did. But there is no comparison in the real world understanding of the world as it is between the last administration and this one. It is also a matter of intent. Jimmy Carter for example was inept and bumbling like the current administration folks, but at least he meant well and had the interests of the nation at heart. The current admin is inept AND has awful ideas and policy. Trump did not. The corrupt DC machine despised Trump because he came in with the Windex and freaked them out. Say whatever you like about DT, he definitely had the best interests of the nation at heart. The current leadership is either/both corrupt and/or totally incompetent.
